San Francisco (Part 2)

From Justin:

San Francisco was a blast! We got into San Francisco late last night, so we slept in a little bit today. When we got up, we started the day by taking a tour of Alcatraz. The Alcatraz tour took a lot longer than you would think. It was an audio tour, so it takes you all over the prison. It pretty much shows you the whole prison, including the roughest areas. Alcatraz is amazing, though. It is just a prison on a rocky island in the middle of the ocean. When visiting Alcatraz, you could definitely see why it got the reputation it has … and also why it was so rough. Solitary confinement would have been horrible … because you could go days, weeks, or even months without very much sunlight. There would not be a lot of perks for the prisoners to look forward to. I believe only three or four cells actually got direct sunlight each day, so it would have been a treat to be in one of those cells. But it was definitely a rough prison.

After visiting Alcatraz, we quickly toured the downtown San Francisco area. We went to this place called Fisherman's Wharf, where we met Jessica Misslin … and had some brunch. We ate at a restaurant called Sea Lion CafĂ©. The food was decent, but there were a bunch of Sea Lions right off the dock, so that part was cool. After that, we returned our rental and reloaded the RV. Now we're off to Fresno, California … and then to Las Vegas. Well, that's all, folks! I hope everybody is having a great night! I'll put another blog entry out tomorrow … and hopefully I'll be starting it off by me telling you how cool the sequoia trees are in California.

Andy, thanks for keeping us all up to date, for posting the pictures and for providing links to every destination. JJ, it sounds like the trip is pretty amazing. Just as you are in all of our hearts every day, we are with you in all of your ventures. I'm sure the pictures don't even begin to describe the sights you have been able to see. Keep soakin it up, and keep on keeping on. I can't wait to see you and talk to you again. I love you man.

Justin,
Sounds like an awesome trip. San Francisco is a blast. We know those noisy sea lions and how cool Alcatraz is. We are in Curacao, it is hot and beautiful. We were in Aruba yesterday and hope to come back to both these islands. We were so happy to pull up your blog and see your pictures and hear the stories. Happy bday Vicky. love Jon and Colleen

JJ-
Sounds like fun! Kenny Chesney sings a song about Fresno, so you'll have to let me know if you see him there! You can give him my phone number if you want.
Just kidding.
I got your message yesterday about Arizona, sounds awesome. Just keep me posted.
Have fun

Justin,

Duffy and I have also had lunch at the Sea Lion Cafe. ---- The sea lions really are big, and very noisy, with huge dung dropings!!!

Several years back they tried to get rid of them because of the noise and mess! The public outcry stopped the movement.

GOOD LUCK in Vegas ---- the only winners in that town is the mob!!!! Watch your wallet.

Continue to have a great trip.

Looks like you are having a great time and it seems we are both seeing a lot of sea lions. Seth and I are on the Galapagos Islands right now. It was nice to have a little break from Spanish classes in Quito and hang out on the beach with all the animals. I think about you often and i love reading about your fun adventure. Miss you tons!!!
