Chaska cross country paying tribute to JJ

The Chaska High School boys cross country coach Andy Powell e-mailed me today to let me know that the program is going to pay tribute to JJ, who was an extremely gifted runner, on October 2. I'm so thankful and excited that the Chaska cross country program is doing this. Andy Powell (pictured left) and Scott Stallman (pictured right) are wonderful people. If anyone is interested in attending this event on October 2, please let me know … and I will let you know the details as it gets closer. The e-mail is below.

Andrew,

We are going to recognize and pay tribute to Justin at the Victoria Lions Invite on October 2. The boys varsity race has been re-named in his honor and will be called the Justin Kukowski Memorial 5K. That will appear on all the plaques given to top finishers for teams and individuals. We're going to contact Justin's mom and dad and ask that they attend the awards ceremony. Can you give me some contact info for them (e-mails/phone numbers)? That would be great. We'd love it if you and anyone else from Justin's CC era (Mark Williams, Matt Schoen, etc.) could attend as well. We're very proud to be recognizing Justin in this manner and hope this race will serve as an ongoing legacy to his accomplishments and tremendous spirit. Any involvement you'd like to personally have or suggestions you want us to consider are welcome. We hope you can be a part of this event.

Wow that is such an awesome way to honor JJK. He would have been pumped to know that you guys re-named the race after him.

And holy crap, j's was faster than hell. About a month after moving in to P's place kuke, george and I all went running together....that was the first and last time I ever went running with him......he was too fast and could run fast for EVER....it was unreal!
